Patrick Maloney
Hi, I'm Patrick, a Software Engineer based in Munich, Germany.
I build full-stack web applications, but I come at every project from the frontend first. Before I think about architecture or data models, I'm already thinking about what the user will see, where they'll get stuck, and what makes the experience feel obvious instead of painful. That perspective tends to catch things a purely backend-focused team would miss, and it's what I'm most proud to bring to a project.
How I got here
I studied Computer Science at the University of Portland in Oregon, and spent a summer studying in Salzburg, Austria, which planted a seed. After graduating in 2020 I joined CDK Global in San Jose, building React applications for automotive industry clients. Two years later, my partner and I made the leap and moved to Germany for real.
Since then I've been consulting in Munich, first at foobar Agency, then at SQUER Solutions where I'm currently a Lead Software Engineer. I work across full-stack projects for clients in Germany and Austria, mostly in Angular and TypeScript. A lot of that work involves taking workflows that are technically correct but painful to use, and rebuilding them around how people actually work.
Outside the office
When I'm not coding you'll find me making music, playing chess, or out on a walk with Dublin, my rescue Formosan Mountain Dog.
